October 2, 2020  ·  By mark

On October 1, 2020, the Catholic Diocese of Camden, New Jersey filed a Petition for Bankruptcy under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey.

Hours earlier, on October 1, 2020, the Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre on Long Island also filed a Petition for Bankruptcy, in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New Jersey.

These Catholic Dioceses have filed bankruptcy in an attempt to minimize the negative financial impact resulting from their widespread cover up of decades of sexual abuse by priests under their supervision.

The experts at Hurley McKenna & Mertz represent more than thousands of individuals who were victims of sexual abuse by Catholic priests, Mormon/LDS Church representatives and Boy Scout leaders.  We secured the largest single perpetrator settlement in the history of the Boy Scouts of America on account of sexual abuse of a minor.

We’re here to advise you of your rights and to simplify the process of filing a claim against the Catholic Diocese of Camden and the Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre. These Dioceses will ask the Courts to set deadlines for victims to file compensation claims against them, and based on our experience, they will ask the Courts to set the shortest deadlines possible.  If you or a loved one are a victim of sexual abuse in these Dioceses, you must act fast to meet the claims deadlines that the Bankruptcy Courts will set.
