  • $20,000,000 – (Chicago) $20 million verdict: $10 million in compensatory damages, $10 million in punitive damages against PACCAR, Inc., the manufacturer of Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks, for a man that lost his eye when the hood of his PACCAR truck unexpectedly blew over onto his head after his truck broke down. Plaintiff alleged that PACCAR, Inc. negligently manufactured and designed the truck by failing to implement known safety systems that prevented hoods from unexpectedly blowing over. When evidence revealed that PACCAR, Inc. knew of 16 prior similar incidents but failed to inform their safety engineers of these incidents, Plaintiff sought and the jury awarded punitive damages for the reckless conduct of PACCAR, Inc.

Affirmed as the first negligent credentialing case reported in the State of Illinois by the Illinois Appellate Court and the Illinois Supreme Court.

A resident doctor at Cook County Hospital in Chicago prematurely and improperly performed an amniotomy leading to an umbilical cord prolapse which deprived the baby of oxygen so that brain damage occurred.
  • $7,500,000 – (Chicago) Settlement for brain injury suffered by twins at birth due to the failure of their doctors to treat a Group B strep infection at Northwest Community Hospital.
  • $7,300,231 – (Chicago) Structured settlement for a 6 year old girl injured at birth when resident physicians pulled excessively on the girl's head during delivery, resulting in an injury to the child's left brachial plexus nerve.
  • $7,200,000 – (Wheaton, IL) Record wrongful death verdict in DuPage County, Illinois after a 48 year old woman admitted to Edward Hospital with pneumonia was wrongly diagnosed as suffering from alcohol withdrawal and instead treated with Valium and a nicotine patch as the oxygen in her blood slowly decreased.
  • $6,800,000 – (Chicago) Verdict plus settlement on behalf of an 81 year old woman who suffered loss of her kidney function and needed permanent dialysis due to improper use of gentamicin at a nursing home. Our successful appeal after the verdict increased the amount recovered for the plaintiff from $3,200,000 to $6,800,000. Affirmed by Illinois Appellate Court.
  • $6,500,000 – (Chicago) Settlement during trial for brain injury to a child caused during labor and delivery when doctor and nurse at Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, IL failed to realize that the baby's heart rate was too low when the fetal heart monitor they were using mistakenly recorded the mother's heart rate instead of the baby's. As a result, they delayed cesarean section delivery of the baby, and the baby suffered loss of oxygen to the brain.
  • $5,300,000 – (Wheaton, IL) Record high wrongful death settlement in DuPage County for the death of a 23 year old wife and mother admitted to Central DuPage Hospital with stroke symptoms. An MRI of the woman’s brain was performed in time, but the radiologist and the neurologist failed to diagnose the stroke depicted on the MRI images. This delay in diagnosis lost the woman’s opportunity to undergo life-saving surgery that would have removed the blood clot causing her stroke.
  • $4,750,000 – (Chicago) Settlement for failure to diagnose kidney disease in a pregnant woman by an obstetrician at the University of Chicago. The woman suffered end-stage renal disease as a result, and her prematurely delivered child suffered from intrauterine growth retardation.
  • $4,700,000 – (Chicago) Verdict for negligence and medical malpractice when emergency room doctors at St. James Hospital failed to timely intubate or provide an airway to a 49-year-old woman suffering an asthma attack, leading to her brain damage and death.   • $4,500,000 – (Chicago) Settlement on behalf of a 12 year old boy born developmentally challenged when doctors failed to perform an immediate cesarean section after there were indications the boy was suffering from lack of oxygen in the womb.

A flaw in the extension table caused the piece being cut to jam and force the plaintiff’s hand into the spinning blade. Tried in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
  • $1,000,000 – (Chicago) Wrongful death case brought on behalf of the family of a 91 year old woman that was found deceased in her home after the installation of a new boiler. After two expert inspections of the boiler, we determined that the boiler had been improperly installed, leading it to run constantly and raise the temperature within the house to unsafe levels, causing the decedent’s death.
  • $1,000,000 – (Chicago) Settlement before filing suit against practitioners of facilitated communication (FC). Use of this disproved technique to treat autistic children actually delayed getting a severely autistic boy proper therapies.
  • $1,000,000 – (Chicago) Settlement for psychiatric malpractice for a 42 year old woman and her family where improper hypnosis techniques were used to create false memories.
  • $1,000,000 – (Chicago) Settlement for the wrongful death of a 38 year old man resulting from medical negligence. The man’s physicians had replaced his aortic heart valve with a mechanical prosthetic valve replacement and failed to perform the necessary tests to discover that he was suffering runs of tachycardia because a leaflet on the valve was missing.
  • $1,000,000 – (Geneva, IL) Verdict and settlement for a 90 year old woman sexually abused by an employee of her nursing home, Ashwood Healthcare Center in Elgin, Illinois.
