The Boy Scouts Are Attempting to Halt Abuse Victims from Coming Forward. Here's How.

Last week, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) filed a motion to stop law firms' advertising directed at victims of scouting abuse. This comes months after the BSA's February bankruptcy filing, along with an agreement in May that the organization would spend $7 million in outreach efforts to former claimants, along with national TV and print advertisements. So why—after months of a reached agreement—is the BSA raising concern to halt advertising? “I think the Boy Scouts thought they were going to get into this bankruptcy and get out quickly and get about their business. Come to find out there are thousands and thousands of victims that span decades and suffered unspeakably at the hands of child abusers. The bill is coming due for their long dereliction of duty and I don’t think they like it and so that’s where we’re at.”
